At the 17th Annual Evening of Jazz held on August 24, 2012, Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher presented Lincoln Foundation President Larry McDonald with a proclamation declaring that day as Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars Day.

Lincoln Foundation held its annual fundraiser, the 17th Annual Evening of Jazz on Friday, August 24, 2012 at historic Churchill Downs. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer was honored at the event with the 2012 Sprit of Excellence Award for his commitment to education. Contemporary keyboardist Marcus Johnson performed his unique blend of jazz to a crowd of about 350 guests.

The National Lincoln Institute Alumni Reunion was held on August 4, 2012. The reunion consisted of a memorial service on the historic Lincoln Institute campus, a banquet on the Belle of Louisville, and brunch.
Larry McDonald, Lincoln Foundation President, presented the distinguished alumni recognition for Dr. Whitney M. Young, Sr., who is the first inductee in the Lincoln Institute Hall of Fame. The plaque was presented to Bonnie Boswell, granddaughter of Dr. Whitney M. Young, Sr. The Hall of Fame plaque will be on permanent display on the Lincoln Institute campus.
