Selina Negash

Selina Negash has been a Whitney M. YOUNG Scholar since the 7th grade. She is a senior at duPont Manual High School.

Selina has always had the desire to go into the medical field since childhood and has been a part of the Jefferson County Public Schools Math, Science, and Technology (MST) since middle school. Selena took an average of three Advanced Placement courses during her time at Manual. She earned a score of 4 on the AP Research exam.

A member of the National Beta Club, Selina is also involved in other extracurricular activities at her school. She is the treasurer of the Key Club, secretary of the Black Student Union, and a member of duPont Manual’s Refugee Assistance Program.

Selina is also involved with her church community, helping to plan and host a series of retreats and conferences for over 150 Eritrean youth throughout the Midwest. Selina also works for the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church Diocese of the United States and Canada helping with social media, video production, and advertising.  

Selina will attend Ohio State University where she is the recipient of the school’s premier Morrill Scholarship. She plans to pursue a major in Molecular Genetics with a minor in Clinical Psychology and Individual Differences. Her ultimate goal is to become a Physician’s Assistant.
