Wisdom Igwe is the second member of her family to benefit from the Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars Program®. Her older brother, Marvellous Igwe, was a member of Phase 23/Class of 2018. Like her brother, Wisdom has been a Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars since the 7th grade. She is a senior at Ballard High School.
Originally from Nigeria, Wisdom’s family moved to Kentucky, and she began taking English language classes in the 5th grade. In middle school, Wisdom began playing in the band. She participated in the Kentucky Music Educators Association Solo at Ensemble Festival, winning a distinguished solo award three years in a row. She also joined the track club, as was named her team’s captain due to her strong leadership and communication skills.
At Ballard, Wisdom volunteered as a tutor for disabled students. She also worked as a part-time CLS worker and was a member of the Black Student Union.
Wisdom will continue her education at Western Kentucky University, majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Public health. She hopes to become a Physical Therapist.
