Samari Israel El has been a Whitney M. YOUNG Scholar since the 7th grade, following in the footsteps of two former Scholar siblings. His sister N’Kara Israel El was a member of Phase 23/Class of 2018, and his brother William Caldwell was a member of Phase 20/Class of 2015.

Samari is a senior at duPont Manual High School, where he has demonstrated strong academic skills. He completed a total of seven AP classes. He is also a member of the Winner’s Circle Robo Jockey’s Robotics Team and participated in the Upward Bound Program.

His extracurricular activities include playing on the duPont Manual High School varsity football team and a member of varsity track and field. Samari has also served as a volunteer for the Salvation Army, Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon, and as a Whitney M. YOUNG Scholar ambassador.

Samari will attend the University of Kentucky in the fall, where he will pursue a major in finance and economics. Ultimately, Samari plans to earn a Ph.D. in economics, and eventually launch a private equity firm.
