Joseph Falcon has been part of the Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars Program® since the 7th grade. He is a senior at The Academy at Shawnee High School and he is an Advanced Placement student.
Joseph has been actively involved as a leader at his school and throughout the Louisville community. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and currently serves as president for his school’s chapter. He also serves as president of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Men of Quality Mentoring Program, executive vice president of the student council, and leads Shawnee’s Gay Straight Alliance. In addition, Joseph serves as an ambassador for Academies of Louisville, and he is a member of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Joseph has participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters and the UPS School-to-Work Program. He was named a Super Kid in the November 2019 issue of Louisville Magazine.
Joseph received an Honorable Mention as part of the Louisville Metropolitan Region of the National Scholastic Art Awards Competition. During his junior year, Joseph was accepted into the Governor’s Scholars Program. He was named a Churchill Downs Winner’s Circle Governor’s Scholar in 2019.
Joseph will attend Centre College in the fall where he plans to major in anthropology and minor in linguistics. Once he completes his bachelor’s degree, Joseph plans to pursue a master’s degree in English. His career goal is to teach English as a second language in Japan.
